Colour Engineering: Achieving Device Independent Colour

چکیده
This book is an attempt at compiling a concise yet descriptive text on a variety of topics in the color processing chain in a digital color imaging device/system. As the title of the book suggests, the aim of this book is to put activities of various academic and industrial groups, either as proprietary research or through standards bodies, into perspective. The editors achieve this by collecting 18 different chapters from a wide gamut of authors, each a prominent figure in the community. As may be expected with any such compilation, achieving a continuous flow while keeping overlaps to a minimum is a difficult task. The editors, Phil Green and Lindsay MacDonald, however have done a wonderful job of achieving this, although some overlaps are bound to creep in. In the preface, the authors state that the book is organized into four sections, the first dealing with color science fundamentals, the second describing the characterization of color imaging devices, the third describing some current themes in color management and finally, the fourth covering activities in various industrial setups and standards committees. In my opinion, Chapters 1–5 would fall in the first category, Chapters 6–8 and 10 would fall into the second, Chapters 11–17 would fall into the third, and the last chapter would fall into the fourth category. I have intentionally left Chapter 9 out of the above classification as it deserves a category to itself as an excellent resource. I shall touch upon this in a later paragraph as I briefly describe each chapter. In Chapter 1, Arthur Tarrant presents a host of fundamentals in color science in a concise fashion, touching upon various terms used in the first part of CIE Publication 15.2 and some fundamentals about light transmission and reflection. He also introduces metamerism, which is a hard task given that colorimetry isn’t yet defined in this book. In any case, the chapter

Color Changes Kinetics and Heat Transfer during Deep Fat Frying of Garlic Slice
Heat and mass transfer phenomena that take place during frying cause physicochemical changes, which affect the colour and surface of the fried products. The effect of frying temperature on the colour changes and heat transfer during deep fat frying of garlic has been investigated. The colour scale parameters redness (a*), yellowness (b*) and lightness (L*), and color change intensity (∆E) were ...
متن کاملGrinding-aid effect on the colour properties (Ry, whiteness and yellowness) of calcite in stirred media milling
This study investigates the influence of some chemical additives such as methanol, ethanol, sodium oleat, chloroform and sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) on the dry fine grinding of calcite (X50= 33 µm) using a stirred media mill. The experiments were carried out by a batch operation, and the change in colour properties (Ry, whiteness and yellowness) of calcite powder. The results showed that th...
متن کاملColour Emotion Models, CIELAB Colour Coordinates, and Iranian Emotional Responses
Ten colour emotional scales, namely, "Warm Cool", "Active-Passive", "Like-Dislike", "Clean-Dirty", "Fresh-Stale", "Modern-Classical", "Heavy-Light", "Hard- Soft", "Tense-Relaxed", and "Masculine-Feminine"are investigated for single-colour stimuli in CIELAB colour space within a psychophysical experiment by forty observers. The relationships between Iranian colour emotional responses and CIELAB ...
متن کاملThe study of synthetic and natural pigments on the colour of the Albino Oscar
In this study, we have investigated the effects of mix of Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) & Carrot) Daucus carota ( and red Bell pepper )Capsicum annuum( as a natural pigment source and astaxanthin as synthetic pigment sources on the skin colour of cichlid fish (Astronotus ocellatus sp., Agassiz, 1831), which are generally white with red patches in the dorsal skin. The fish were fed diets contain...
متن کاملRemoval of Coliform, Suspended Solids, UV254 and Colour Using Zeolite and Activated Carbon in Riverbank Filtration System
River bank filtratio filtration (RBF) is one of the novel water abstraction alternatives to tackle poor water quality problem in Malaysia. This study was conducted to investigate the potential use of zeolite and activated carbon as filter media in the laboratory RBF system. Characteristics of the materials were first determined using the surface analyzer and X-ray fluorescence method. Filter co...
متن کاملجدا کردن رنگ کاراملی از ملاس چغدرقند و بررسی ویژیگی ها و کاربرد آن در صنایع غذایی
Molasses are produced in large amounts by sugar cane and sugar beet factories every year. However, they are considered as the waste product of the crystallization plants. Thus, although they contain significant amounts of materials with deep black colour which can be separated as food colour, molasses are very cheap and feasible to be used for this purpose. Aliquots of diluted molasses, after a...
